Summary
After discussion with this small business owner, she was already in the process of redesigning her website. As we looked at her current site together there were major issues with the top menu navigation for the desktop website. I will try to resolve the menu issue by using the information I gained during my interview with her and competitive analysis of local photographer websites.

About Rachel Syrisko Photography
An engagement, elopement and wedding photographer located in the greater Seattle area with a pension for connecting with the couples she works with to create an intimate and unique experience.
Objective
Increase visibility of the menu throughout the whole site and reorganize the menu options to better direct the potential client to eventually contact the photographer.
The current menu navigation does not bode well with certain images and menu pages
Business Needs
- Create a clear path for the user to get to know the photographer, see their work and book a call.
- As discussed with the photographer, this site is a home base for her work and any potential client whether they were directed to her website from social media or a wedding vendor website
- The new website would elaborate on the info that was derived from exploring the image grid on Instagram, creating a bigger picture about who the photographer is and what they have to offer.
- Instead of a portfolio tab the photographer sees more value in a blog tab where she can write out the story behind the couples and their photo stories
Competitive Analysis
These two wedding photographer sites define the menu bar across all pages so it is easy to see and use. The menu options are limited to 5-6 items with drop down menus
Approach
Conclusion
Through this case study, I had the privilege of experiencing direct to client contact and a discussion of their business needs and how that could be accomplished by designing a better user experience overall for their clients.
I was able to learn how to communicate to the client the importance of user stories, flows, site maps and the information architecture.
